Nostalgia here is strong bro! Man, I do miss that aesthetic. It simple/minimalist while also having quite a bit of character. Nowadays, it’s mostly minimalist with very little character. Kinda like we’ve gotten lazy.
This aesthetic is interesting to me too cause it represented a time where tecnhology/internet was a part of life but not so in our face all the time like it now is. There was a separation between present day to day life and all the technology that felt like a safe distance. Almost like technology still felt like this cool place you could enter, rather than the environment you permanently live inside.
And it’s funny looking at how different generations imagined “the future.” The 80s imagined neon cities, flying cars, chrome, synths, giant futuristic skylines. Then Y2K had this shiny, clean, optimistic internet future where everything was translucent blue, silver, bubbly and weirdly hopeful 
Now that we actually live in “the future,” everything is flat icons, black rectangles and subscription menus lol.
Which movie from the past do you think had the coolest look for the future?

Yes, it looks ‘cool’ but it is a miseraaable world. Cyberpunk worlds look cool in the surface but my god, are they miserable worlds. They hurt me more to watch because it hits way too close to home and seems to be the path we are headed on. It’s lowkey disturbing lol.
That said, Dennis Villanueve did such a cool job of scaling a cyberpunk world in the way he did. He’s my favorite director right now. If Dune 3 delivers, he will have made my favorite sci fi trilogy of all time.
