Today is celebrated as ‘Guru Purnima’ - ‘A day to thank our gurus(masters) and receive grace’ celebrated in few regions and cultures, meaning that it is also the first full moon after the summer solstice – when the sun reaches its highest point and marks the longest day. It is said to be brightest full moon of the year. Astrologically, today is significant with respect to Jupiter + Sun + Moon position (probably strong magnetic field) and its effect to spiritual growth and success to one-self.
This festival is a great opportunity to pay respect and gratitude to those who we look up to and those who have guided and inspired us.
‘GURU’ word meaning itself in Sanskrit is the one/thing who dispels the ignorance or darkness. Another meaning is said to be referring to something Large, and great. That’s why Jupiter is called as Guru in astrology and it’s considered to be the most auspicious planet among the 9 planets of astrology.
On this day, many cultures do pay obeisance to their dear deities, spiritual gurus, parents or one’s self etc. I believe that anyone can be guru - any person, location, living being (butterflies, birds, insects, ants) , any experience. Lets shower boundless gratitude, do meditate, be kind to everyone today and ever !
Happy Guru Purnima to everyone!
