How do you get close to Shiva? How do you worship him?
Well the content of this post turned out a bit different than what a though :D
I can’t help you unfortunately since I don’t worship gods, but I’m curious to see answers from those who have some helpful inputs.
Mantra and Yantra are traditional methods.
- Yup! Mantras are the way to go. In my opinion, easier route to Shiva is always through Shakti, the Great Goddess. Reaching the “unmanifest” is easier through the “manifest”.
- Shiva while is a deity (manifests as various forms - Bhairava, Rudra, Dakshinamurti the teacher, etc.) is also one’s own Awakened Consciousness in its pure and expansive form, so there’s that too. Shiva-consciousness is like the cloudless, expansive blue sky with no beginning or end, it is just pure presence and bliss.
- Shiva is also the greatest of Yogis - so Yogic practices of any kind eventually when fructified do result in visions of Shiva (or glimpses of Shiva consciousness) in various states of Samadhi.
You can just look at Shiva linga! It’s a meditation + its a worship + its everything
I think a few things have to be experienced
Well, I didn’t see him, but I think I benefitted from his power/help.
As I was reading about a variety of deities, I liked what was written about Shiva.
I meditated and praised what I liked about him according to my readings. Then I asked for a boon, the power to easily and gently break a few habits that I’d like to change. Well, that came true, so I assume he might have been the one who guided me.
– fyi, I was totally sincere when I spared time to praise him. In fact, I just meditated and praised to say hello at the time. I asked for the boon several weeks after that.
