Not to be cheeky, but this tends to really help most of the time:
People tend to behave like that because they are in pain and suffering at some level… the only way to win this is to do what is unexpected… to be understanding.
They are as children to an extent, the narcissist probably has a lack of control in life, and the know-it-all boss could potentially be experiencing imposter syndrome.
By no means are you obligated to heal them, but, at the very least, by understanding the source of their dysfunction, you can “sedate” them using the proper approach.
Fighting fire with fire will only light things ablaze.
