There Be Bees has an ecological dystopia thing going on. Works like The Hobbit in that a “bedtime story” starts the worldbuilding for a larger-scale epic, and one more people should probably pay attention to. I think there’s a nod to the misattributed Einstein quote.
“If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe then man would only have four years of life left. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man.”
Nice springboard for further discussion on colony collapse disorder, how all beings function in an ecosystem, how humans can cause or save endangered species, and how we’re all hurtling towards a devastating climate change (melting permafrost releasing ancient diseases, for one). Makes me think of Greta Thunberg’s How Dare You speech.
