Well, we need to keep things in a practical way, superior or not, for example, when it comes to choosing between someone’s child and pet (a purely hypothetical choice, let’s say there are not enough medics or meds, after a disaster), not many parents would choose the pet - in that regard, saving humans is The priority.
When it comes to how low most of us can get, well, we can forget all about spirituality or being civilized, especially in times of crisis and especially when facing death or real danger, that’s when we show our animalistic instincts and desires - well, we are not robots after all, however, animals, especially pets, can be Quite Noble, Nobler than many humans - pets can have a fierce loyalty and love for their human friends/family (so called owners) and for each other (my cats and dog are all so loving, they adore each other), they can babysit, protect the property and their owner, they even share their spoils with us (when they catch an unfortunate bird, for example - although they keep the bird, but share/offer the mouse, and of course I’m not in the mood for such delicacies).
Anyway, this comment was not necessary, but so are most comments - I just felt the need to write it.
