What happens when the content we want to purchase/use is no longer available for the sale but is available somewhere else(not talking about morphic fields). Is that pirating?
Im going to hell
That aint u bored, ur small
Unless that book is authored by a Morphic Fields Creator (cough - in which case, I would not want bad Karma, plus I have so much Respect for him), I have no qualms acquiring content for free (well, I don’t usually acquire books anyway, I’m into movies, shows and video games ).
I mean, think about it, 300-400 euros/dollars a month, try to live with those money in a European Country where prices are not quite low and you see that buying anything besides food becomes a problem…
However, above that lowly level, YES, you can have An Amazing Life in Romania, so just getting above lowest income makes your Life a Paradise, the Country’s Spectacular (you just need the money to enjoy it).
Now, back to the subject…
Is it still stealing?
Kinda.
But it all depends on the laws of a country and on circumstances, I guess and I’m NOT a Saint.
As for Karma, I think it’s quite negligible, not huge karma, I mean, you’re not killing people.
I believe at higher levels you just sort out stuff yourself. Author and you would come to an agreement.
If earth and humanity is still going on, there is probably some exception with earth.
We live in a closed system. We simply can’t live without taking. This is the perfect excuse for many bad things going on.
Anyway if you don’t want to incur in unintended karma…then just don’t risk it.
Good luck
Copyright first came about in the American colonies because when new books were shipped over from Europe, opportunists would create their own versions as soon as the books were received, so the authors (publishers) missed out on profits in this ever-expanding market. They then made laws to protect written works for a certain amount of time so that money could actually be made by the producers of the work. The printing press and a nation of literate people made it possible for a people-ruled government to break away from the monarchy, and it can be argued that copyright was used as a way to slow down this spread of information, another way to exert control over a population across a large body of water. Things are not so different today as they were back then, as corporations today use and abuse copyright to limit expression and information flow, to control and steer thought. When you realize how publicly funded most things actually are, most copyright arguments go right out the window and claiming you own a character or a pattern of thought forever is like claiming you own a piece of God or a piece of the collective human unconscious, it’s fantasy and blasphemy. It’s hilariously ridiculous, but so is the legal system (there is no longer a justice system, if there ever was one).
I think there are exceptions, and with how easily works can be reproduced now and ripped off, mostly talking about works of art, creative pieces, including morphic fields, there should be at least some protection from a certain amount of time so creators can be rewarded for their works and can keep producing, which helps everyone. Most creative works are absolute shit though, so it goes back to the whole, “what is art?” question that has been going on for hundreds of years if not longer, but are we really going to include all of the furry porn in with life-altering creations like what Cap Nemo Dreamweaver and others are making?
AI created works are going to change this conversation again, like how file-sharing technology changed the conversation back in the napster/limewire days. Right now, we have the “copyright is morality” play because of Disney, mostly. It’s always been about protection of the publishing houses, not the creators. Most artists barely see a dime for their work. That’s why cutting out the middleman and sponsoring creators directly is so important, which could happen with a revolutionized monetary system. It all goes together. I would argue there is a moral imperative to steal and create, after all we have to thank Prometheus the original copyright “thief,” roughly. It’s only because we live in a fantasy world of “resource scarcity” that this conversation has to happen at all, as people need to eat, so how can you blame them to be protective of their work? But we acknowledge that everything we know is in fact a lie and that all things are possible, that resources are only as scarce as we believe them to be (at this point, I’ll go with literally), making the notion that there isn’t enough for everyone 10 times over a fiction of those who aim to reign forever in hell. I’ll digress, and don’t worry, I’m not a communist.
It can be a messy conversation, but it’s clear that the more free access people have to all information, and have the ability to use and reproduce aspects into their own works freely, the (potentially) greater the intellect and ability of the people to self-govern and thrive, to have a propensity for liberty and increase the common good. It helps complete the Great Work, for at the bottom of the well is God waiting for you.
Thinking now, a good argument to differentiate between who should get paid for their creative work and for how long could be made around service to society or service to yourself, as in creative works that help others have more protections than creative works that are made almost solely to profit, but there are certainly pitfalls to this argumentation as well. The best thing we can do is keep talking about it and not let a few corporations and a few judges hold back the billions of minds that will help free humanity and make the need for this type of conversation a thing of the past. It is all, ultimately, about control.
Not exactly… Queen Anne Statute first introduced copyright :)
Almost there but not exactly. Megastudios actually changed the copyright laws in the US to protect their own interests in any type of work so that their copyrighted works like films and cartoons never enter the public domain. That is yet another reason for the flood of remakes, re-launches etc.
