Some informations:
Soul/Existential wounds.
John Pierrakos is an american psychiatrist who developed the concept of eight existential wounds (abandonment, rejection, humiliation, betrayal, injustice, intrusion, helplessness and insecurity) that would impact our self-concept, attachment style and perspectives on life. Influenced by the work of controversial psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich on narcissistic injury, healing those wounds aims to relink one to their authentic selves.
His theory on existential/soul wounds was later the source of Lise Bourbeau book « Heal your wounds and find your true self ».
Also there is no clinical evidence of soul/existential wounds as defined by both John Pierrakos and Lise Bourbeau, they seem to be a coherent therapeutic tool to help people get a better understanding of themselves and a relevant approach on deep healing.
A good sense of self, self-esteem and healing deep wounds as much as one’s « narcissistic flaw » are key components in withdrawing from manipulative people.
Self-esteem.
"Self-esteem is confidence in one’s own worth, abilities, or morals.
Self-esteem encompasses beliefs about oneself (for example, “I am loved”, “I am worthy”) as well as emotional states, such as triumph, despair, pride, and shame. Smith and Mackie define it by saying "The self-concept is what we think about the self; self-esteem, is the positive or negative evaluations of the self, as in how we feel about it. [In philosophy, the self is an individual’s own being, knowledge, and values and the relationship between these attributes.]
The construct of self-esteem has been shown to be a desirable one in psychology, as it is associated with a variety of positive outcomes, such as academic achievement, relationship satisfaction, happiness, and lower rates of criminal behavior. The benefits of high self-esteem are thought to include improved mental and physical health, and less anti-social behavior while drawbacks of low self-esteem have been found to be anxiety, loneliness, and increased vulnerability to substance abuse.
Self-esteem can apply to a specific attribute or globally. Psychologists usually regard self-esteem as an enduring personality characteristic (trait self-esteem), though normal, short-term variations (state self-esteem) also exist. Synonyms or near-synonyms of self-esteem include: self-worth, self-regard, self-respect, and self-integrity." - Wikipedia.
Athena.
Ancient Greek Goddess of wisdom, military strategy, artisans, artists and teachers.
Athena is a poliad divinity, protectress of several cities in Greece including Athens. She was born from Zeus’s head, from which she extracted thanks to Hephaïstos’s axe blow. It is said she jump out in existence fully geared with a spear, a shield and a helmet and astounded the entire world with a powerful war cry heard from all.
Odysseus’s divine advisor on his way back home, she also protects the heroes Perseus, Heracles, Bellerophon and Jason.
She won Athens over Poseidon to be the protectress of the city after a vote from athenians, or King Crecrops preference, according to different sources. Athena had offered an olive branch to the athenians, symbol of wisdom, to win the people’s vote, as opposed to Poseidon who hit the acropolis with a thunder from which a black stallion sprung, invincible in battle, or according to the sources, a spring of salt water.
The acropolis is the highest point in the city of Athens, where Athena Parthenos’s Temple has been built in 447 BC. Two thousand two hundred and forty nine years later, in 1801, during the Ottoman occupation of the country, an english man called Lord Elgin asks and gets an authorization from the occupying forces to get what he wants from the Parthenon itself, for himself. It is outraging to this day. That man took almost the entirety of the temple’s marble fresques on a boat to try to sell them in Great Britain. Although he succeeded in his theft from the city at his second try, it is interesting that his first attempt to ship the - undeclared to the British authorities - fresques has been a shipwreck. Because yes, an unexpected sea storm caught the vile Lord’s ship, sank it and all its content to the depth of the Ionian Sea, off the island of Kythera. Knowing Poseidon, God and ruler of the seas, is linked to the myth of Athens and its protection so closely, that event is interesting to say the least. Nevertheless, Lord Elgin did exiled the fresques to London after some time and they are now exhibited in the British Museum. Since 1834, Greek royals and then governments have been asking and negotiating the return of the fresques that were stolen, 2/3 of the total fresques. Hopefully they will come back to the 1/3 still remaining in Athens, where the Acropolis Museum, Athenians and Greek people are ready to welcome them back home.
In Iliad, Odyssey and Homeric Hymns, Athena is portrayed as Zeus’s favorite, like him she has got the aegis and can throw lighting and thunder.
She helps Perseus defeating Medusa, one of the gorgons, creatures whose stare can petrify whoever is looking at them. Perseus offered the Gorgoneion, which is Medusa’s head, to Athena.
She adorned the aegis with it, at its center, embracing its powers of petrification. Also present on the the aegis’s perimeter, snakes hemmed, are four personified abstractions: Terror (Phòbos), Quarrel (Éris), Force of action (Alké) and Pursuit (Ioké).
Athena’s aegis might differ from Zeus’s. Carried on the shoulders, hers is sparkling with the gold of which it is made, it is adorned with softly braided gold fringes « each is worth a hundred ox ». It provides invincibility because it is itself indestructible.
The snake as her attributes can be healing or destructive.
Athena is linked to the roman Goddess Minerva.
Four Toltec Agreements.
The Toltecs. Toltec culture developed around their capital Tula near Teotohuacan in Mexico around 900 and 1200. In Nahua tribes legends, Toltecs were at the origin of all civilisation, hence « toltec » means « master builders », « artisans », « artists » in nahuatl. Aztecs, to assert their superiority, have claimed to be their descendants.
— "The Toltec culture (/ˈtɒltɛk/) was a pre-Columbian Mesoamerican culture that ruled a state centered in Tula, Hidalgo, Mexico, during the Epiclassic and the early Post-Classic period of Mesoamerican chronology, reaching prominence from 950 to 1150 CE. The later Aztec culture considered the Toltec to be their intellectual and cultural predecessors and described Toltec culture emanating from Tōllān [ˈtoːlːãːn̥] (Nahuatl for Tula) as the epitome of civilization. In the Nahuatl language the word Tōltēkatl [toːɬˈteːkat͡ɬ] (singular) or Tōltēkah [toːɬˈteːkaḁ] (plural) came to take on the meaning “artisan”. The Aztec oral and pictographic tradition also described the history of the Toltec Empire, giving lists of rulers and their exploits.
Modern scholars debate whether the Aztec narratives of Toltec history should be given credence as descriptions of actual historical events. While all scholars acknowledge that there is a large mythological part of the narrative, some maintain that, by using a critical comparative method, some level of historicity can be salvaged from the sources. Others maintain that continued analysis of the narratives as sources of factual history is futile and hinders access to learning about the culture of Tula.
Other controversies relating to the Toltec include the question of how best to understand the reasons behind the perceived similarities in architecture and iconography between the archaeological site of Tula and the Maya site of Chichén Itzá. Researchers are yet to reach a consensus in regards to the degree or direction of influence between these two sites." - Wikipedia.
Four Toltec Agreements. Based on the Toltec wisdom and spiritual beliefs, the Four Toltec Agreements are the following:
- Be impeccable with your word
- Do not take anything personally
- Do not make assumptions
- Always do your best
Presented in a book published in 1997 by nahuatl toltec descendant Michel Ruiz, the aim of this philosophy is to break free from limiting beliefs and unnecessary suffering depriving us from joy, and to reach the dimension of unconditional love that we are originating from according to the Toltec culture.
It is about de-conditioning one’s mind from other people expectations and their own limiting beliefs to have another filter on life based on sane and self-set life guidelines.
— According to the author, the book is inspired by a set of the Toltec people’s spiritual beliefs. The intent of the book is to help readers explore “freedom,” “happiness,” and “love.”
The central point is that a person’s life is determined by agreements they have made with themselves, others, God, and society as a whole. Through these agreements one determines how they see themselves, what is possible for them, how they should behave, and their worth as a person. - Wikipedia.
Notes on narcissists.
In short, people presenting a Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) lack empathy and self-esteem, which they compensate with grandiosity and need for admiration in some cases, or excessive self-loathing in some other cases. Those personality traits can be traced back to certain brain structures and compositions.
It has been shown through clinical studies that narcissists and psychopaths have a deficit in the structure of both the gray and white matter (in certain nervous fibers), leading into a lack of empathy. They seem to be lacking gray matter in general and in the hippocampus, leading to low self-esteem. The networks between the self and reward also seems to be deficient. People diagnosed as psychopath also « have reduced connections between the ventromedial prefrontal cortex (vmPFC), the part of the brain responsible for sentiments such as empathy and guilt, and the amygdala, which mediates fear and anxiety. » (Link).
Interesting to note too is a correlation between genes and optimism and self-esteem.

Healthy personality.
American psychiatrist « George Vaillant describes seven concepts of positive mental health: effective functioning, strengths of character, maturity, positive emotional balance, socio-emotional intelligence, life satisfaction (true happiness), and resilience. His descriptions reflect his outstanding contributions to the epidemiological investigation of mental health as well as his affiliations with psychoanalysis and positive psychology. He makes the valuable observation that these seven concepts of well-being overlap extensively. » (Link).
— « In a first set of studies, we found that the healthy personality can be described, with a high level of agreement, in terms of the 30 facets of the NEO-PI-R. High levels of openness to feelings, positive emotions, and straightforwardness, together with low levels on facets of neuroticism, were particularly indicative of healthy personality functioning. The expert-generated healthy personality profile was negatively correlated with profiles of pathological personality functioning and positively correlated with normative personality functioning. In a second set of studies, we matched the NEO-PI-R profiles of over 3,000 individuals from 7 different samples with the expert-generated healthy prototype to yield a healthy personality index. This index was characterized by good retest reliability and cross-rater agreement, high rank-order stability, and substantial heritability. Individuals with high scores on the healthy personality index were psychologically well-adjusted, had high self-esteem, good self-regulatory skills, an optimistic outlook on the world, and a clear and stable self-view. These individuals were low in aggression and meanness, unlikely to exploit others, and were relatively immune to stress and self-sufficient. » (17,95$ dollar access study, published in Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
