Each person born with different abilities. But you can develop different abilities by doing the energy work. But it tend to fade when you don’t maintain the work.

There are different thoughts on this topic. There is one teacher that says empathy is not a gift, lol. Empaths are usually extra-sensitive to the energies of others. Sometimes that’s all there is at first. You go out in public and get a headache just being around others, or the emotions of the people around you make you feel uncomfortable.
Empathy can mean having sensitivity for others in a way that lets you know how they feel and it opens your heart to them. It can make you a better friend and companion.
There are questionnaires online that will help you pinpoint sensitivities about empathy. I will see if I can find a link.
No, you don’t have to be an empath as I don’t think it has anything to do with being spiritually advanced. People can use it to advance, yes, but it’s not necessary. You don’t have to be an empath to work with energy and have abilities. We all have abilities, some are latent (hidden) until we actively work with them.

You know i’ve always wondered if a narcissist- if he’s able to change 180 degrees of course- can turn into an empath. Since they are complete polar opposites.
I feel like we are all creatures of empathy - we have that potential- it’s just whether we choose to hone into it or not; i think that’s where epigenetics factor in.
Like Imogen said, some are born with it. I’m not sure though if that means others never will.
Perhaps anyone can develop these psychic abilities? it’s nothing too special anyways; if you go on that path to advance it, you best believe you eventually can (some may require more hard work than others though, no doubt)
I sometimes think it could be comparable to this analogy:
We have fluid intelligence (the genetic component)
And crystalized intelligence (the intelligence aspect you can work on / enhance on your own which can inherently bring you to the levels someone with high fluid intelligence may hold).
So if someone were to work on their psychic abilities the same way they would for their CI, maybe it’s not too far fetched to think they can (ie become an empath)
