If you could travel back in time

If you could travel back in time…

What year would you go to?

What would you do?

Which part of the world would you go to, at that time?

Ancient Greece, around 440 BC

Not exactly sure, but I would want to go to a time period where humanity still fervently and truly believed in and worshipped the gods, to sense the faith and divinity during the height of the Age of the gods. Hopefully witness some feats or even creatures of ancient myths and legends. Seeing the statues of ancient gods in all their glory -

For personal insight, I’d go back to when my parents were still together and trying to raise toddler Onwards. I never got to experience them like that, not really. I’d lurk around, do some polite stalking. See them as a couple, get a feel of how they were.

Just for curiosity, ancient Egypt or one of the ancient Chinese dynasties. To witness those cultures and peoples and to see some of the wonders with my own eyes. That would be something.

I don’t know about traveling in time, but I’d like to camp-out in an era. I’ve been thinking quite a bit about how things have changed over the years that I have been alive. How technologies have changed, how society itself has been changed in ways that it never had been before, and how there is always a sort of collective amnesia that occurs after a handful of years.

I think I’d like to camp-out in 2008. When 9-11 happened earlier in the decade, it struck fear into the hearts and minds of many people. It brought restrictions on liberty but it also brought a higher level of vigilance. By the time we get to 2008, it had faded into the backdrop but had strong influence in media like TV shows and Videogames. And now it seems like it’s been completely forgotten —I’m not quite sure how we’ve gotten to the level of incompetence that exists in the current administration, but we could have learned a lot from what was happening less than 2 decades ago.

Anyways, on the civilian side, the early 2000’s seemed to have a perfect balance of technology. Lots of things that had been created in the previous century were brought to a level of completion. Instead of using film cameras, you could have high quality, high capacity digital cameras–and the ability to choose photos rather than wait for the film to be developed.

Microsoft, with its Windows XP had created a more accessible computing platform that was able to reach many areas of society. Blending the accessibility and usability of computers with newly digitized technologies, there was the rise of Home Media (working on your own photos, videos, etc.) and, after that, the rise of social media. ----But, in 2008, these things were still in a fairly germinal form. All of the basic features of society (which had been in place since the 60’s) were still basically in-tact.

It was after 2010 that the upgrading of existing technologies took a shift. Instead of improving basic structures that already existed, there was a thing where everything started getting absorbed into technology. More gadgets on the phone, more services through the computer. In my Luddite-esque mind, it’s like the hyopthetical Grey Goo (Gray goo - Wikipedia ) that’s absorbing human society into itself.

Just taking stock of my own mind, so many things in my own headspace have been deformed from technology use. Things that I couldn’t even recognize without taking deliberate steps to distance myself from current tech. So I’d like to go to a time where the scales hadn’t quite tipped in the direction they’ve gone now. 2008 is a bit arbitrary, but it seems like an alright year to me.

Easyyy mannnn

Id go back in time to any one of these dates:

1964
1966
1971
1974
1975

1964 Muhammad Ali shocked the world and beat sonny liston to become the youngest heavy weight champion (before Mike Tyson)

1966 Muhammad Ali showed the world just how damn good he was when he beat Cleveland Williams (wasn’t a hard fight at all, he just was just so damn perfect, awe inspiring perfection)

1971 Joe Frazier beat Muhammad ali in the “fight of the century”

1974 Muhammad Ali beat Joe Frazier in their second bout

Same year Muhammad Ali beat George foreman

1975 Muhammad Ali beat Joe Frazier for the last time, finalizing their epic trilogy

If i had to choose one, it would be …

1974

So i could see Muhammad Ali fight foreman and Frazier in the same year!:star_struck:

I always used to think about this question, my answer has always been “I’d go back and watch Muhammad Ali fight”

I always wanted to meet him, i was so sad when he passed, i always thought i would, ah man

History is his story, the victors story, victory writes history

Idk what to believe

I also wonder how much we affect the past with our beliefs of what happened, like manifesting things collectively but in the past
