šŸŽ„ Must Watch Movies List for Zoomers

It is slow. Part of that is to show Michaelā€™s transition from war hero to criminal. We need to see him with Kaye at the long wedding, so we can see the life he is giving up. The movie is doing a lot of world buildingā€“the process of favor exchanges, what a Don is, the dynamics of the Corleone family. Godfather II does pick up the pace. It might pay you back better for your time.

Lost Boys and Donnie Brasco. Those tend to get forgotte, but they are awesome films.

Everyone thinks that Goodfellas is a gangster epic but to me itā€™s average or overrated and on par with Casino. I thought Donnie Brasco had a much better storyā€¦

Hereā€™s an unknown gangster movie and very underrated hidden treasure thatā€™s definitely worth a watch; Never Die Alone. Itā€™s about a cunning drug lord from NYC who returns back to his home turf for redemption but instead comes back to retribution. The film is all about his dark past and itā€™s filmed the same way as Reservoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction. Heā€™s the main leading character in the movie but is the antagonist at the same.

Heā€™s also even this womaniser and had many sexual partners that he used to control and ā€˜run circlesā€™ around like by getting them addicted to drugs such as crack cocaine or heroin. This is so he could blackmail, manipulate and keep his women dependant on himā€¦ he was just an outright dominant alpha male that didnā€™t take any shit and just moved from one female to another

But I still like Godfather though. Cause for many of us in the East, Godfather opened doors to watch other Hollywood movies. It was a different experience altogether cause it builds that world very nicely.
This franchise building is not common in the East. Nowadays maybe yes but Godfather really stood the test of timeā€¦ ofc there will be better movies and more up to date movies but it remains a classic cause personally I was in awe of Hollywood after that

Occasionally, I start watching this to see Swayze, forgetting about Whoopi Goldberg. What a hoot this movie is (but intense!). Not to mention Tony Goldwin (of the MGM family and Scandal). creep, lol

It is such a great movie! I feel though that the genre is generally mixed but I still placed it in the romance section as this was the main theme of the movie overall. It was certainly a strong mixture of drama, comedy, fantasy and thrillerā€¦even horror had itā€™s place in certain scenes.

Iā€™d say these two scenes were on the horror spectrum because itā€™s quite hair-raising to watch for the first time if youā€™ve never seen it. There were also reports that these specific scenes even frightened/spooked a lot of children. Just watching the whole process of evil entities/spirits summoning themselves from the dark corners to come drag a bad personā€™s soul away to the lower vibrational realms/hell isnā€™t wholesome to watch and not exactly something youā€™d really expect to have in a romance film:

Isnā€™t Top Gun a really good movie? Surprised its not on there honestly. I did not grow up on American Culture, but that is one movie that always comes up that people were surprised I hadnā€™t seen

Iā€™ve never seen it personally but heard itā€™s quite boring.

Iā€™ll tell you what Iā€™m surprised is not on there (I didnā€™t even put it in my list either!)ā€¦ The Green Mile!

Top Gun. Great aerial combat scenes (the new movie is amazing on that score.)Thereā€™s enough of a plot to hold it together. The romance is horrible, but the Goose character/subplot helps the audience care about Maverick.

I think it presented well its vision of the fighter pilot culture. Itā€™s not The Right Stuff, a much better film, but it does convey, as did The Right Stuff, that oneā€™s membership in the elite flying fraternity is more important than family or money. Itā€™s the only currency that matters. That seemed believable to me.

Although I really enjoyed Scarface, Goodfellas or Once Upon a Time in America (these movies are among my favorites, at least in the crime/mafia genre), for me Godfather was THE Mafia Movie/TRILOGY!
Yes, it is slow at times, but we have to keep in mind that it is made (in) that way by design and the story of Michael (Al Pacino), of his father Vito (played by Marlon Brando or Robert De Niro) and of the entire -most iconic- Corleone Family is a story unlike any other in Hollywood, it is a tragic and extraordinary tale of a family who went through so much change, from humble beginnings to the greatest Crime Family; just to add a few points, the following text is not mine, I took it from a random site and a random person (from reddit, from apparently a deleted user):
"-the fall from grace of Michael Corleone, whose moral downfall is a result of choosing family over honour. Gotta love a good Macbeth story.

-the relationships between the characters feel extremely real, so all the decisions they make out of love and loyalty for one another come across as realistic. I feel like the opening wedding sequence lays the ground work for this, showing their unity through culture.

-itā€™s twisted take on the American Dream, where anyone can come to this country and make something of themselves ā€” even building a criminal empire.

-the theme song is beautiful yet haunting, which infuses the film with these same characteristics.

-the acting from Brando, widely considered the greatest actor of all time, who gives his career defining performance."

Sorry but I think Con Air would outrank Top Gun by miles for Best Flying Movie. Top Gun is like the film Dunkirkā€¦ itā€™s a massive yawn.

I donā€™t know why people never rate Casino as one of the best mafia movies out there because itā€™s just like Goodfellas. Joe Pesci is even funnier in this movie too.

Like do you remember that scene when he smacks that cowboy in the face with the telephone (at the telephone box) and kicks the living daylights out of him because he refused to take his feet off the poker table? Heā€™s like ā€œNikki! Please! Iā€™m sorry maaan!ā€ After been a rude arrogant arsehole :joy::joy:

This is the scene from the movie where Nicky Santoro (Joe Pesci) smacks him: "Casino" - Cowboy Scene HD - YouTube

ā€œI want you to exit this guy off the premises and exit him off his feet and use his head to open the fucking door!ā€ :joy::joy:

@The_Indigo_Man Oh, man, I forgot to mention ā€œCasinoā€, thatā€™s an awesome, awesome movie!
I havenā€™t watched it in a while; :joy: I just watched that scene!
Many thanks for reminding me and anyone how amazing this movie is, itā€™s a true masterpiece, funny too!

Although they are perhaps not mafia or gangster movies, Lethal Weapon movies are awesome as hell, not only entertaining, but I find them funny, starting with the second one, when Joe Pesci is introduced (I think it was the second one).

I found Dunkirk to be further proof of Nolanā€™s genius, but it does feel slow. Con-Air is one of the better ā€œjust another Nicholas Cage" movies (I prefer ā€œSnake Eyesā€ in that category), thought your Scorsese reference made me realize that I think of The Aviator as a better flight movie than Top Gun or Con Air. Great air scenes and quite instructive about an important era in aviation history.
