It is based on misdirection and confusion, as this is overlaid with extra meaning if we add a dimension to it. it is a sort of puzzle a frustrating one.
added to this is some spiritual significance which also adds power to what it is meant to do. its scope of dimensional ‘force imposing’ (like spiritual things on a general sense adds it own punch)

At first glance I think it can do these things:

• Protection: put you in a “chaotic” bubble so negative forces can’t detect you and affect you
• Guidance: finding a way out of confusion, either caused to you or you cause it yourself
