Storing the Field Audios

Thought of starting a topic on how to store the field audios.

In the past, some of the older field audios I had, were lost when my hard drive crashed. Thankfully, only a few of them were lost.

Currently, the audios are from 3 sources.

  • Patreon - these audios are always available to download unless the audio is removed for some reason, or one does not have a subscription
  • Gumroad - audios you buy are always present in the library and can be re-downloaded anytime
  • Teespring - this does not seem to have a library section. So, once downloaded, you need to preserve the audios.

Even with Patreon and Gumroad, who knows what happens in a few years? I mean who on earth imagined that Blockbuster would die (there is a new documentary on Netflix that got me nostalgic)? So, here is what I do to ensure I never lose the 365 precious Sapien fields (apart from regularly backing up my hard disk):

  • As soon as I buy a field or download it from Patreon, I upload them to Google Drive
  • I also upload them to Youtube Music which is where I have all my playlists. Currently, YT Music does not allow downloads, but I am told it will, soon (if it has to really replace Google Play Music in all respects)ā€¦

What do other folks do to safe keep the fields?

Given that YouTube is owned by Google, I would add cloud storage that will be owned by another company.

My audios are backed up on two separate computers, one external drive and on a usb drive.
Iā€™ve written code and lost all my work due to a hd crash two times, so now I make it habit to save all my important stuff. yeah, it is a bit excessive but I donā€™t want to have to download audios from patreon one by one again. Plus, I canā€™t be without BoL.

I have not lost any digital files since saving items on at least three different devices. These audios are gold to me. What would I do without them?

Yes, thatā€™s also what Iā€™m doing, since Iā€™ll buy a new phone this year and I have to download the paid gumroad audios in it via the drive. With Patreon, you can download directly the audios on your new phone, I uploaded some of them to the drive.

By the way, Maoshan, Google Play music app is still functional, works well on my old phone and I listen to some audios using it. My other phone has Samsung Music app where I upload and listen to the audios. I do listen to a number of them on my laptop, too.

Maybe AmazonAWS, OneDrive, Dropbox. I often do the same as the XspaceX.

Mine are :

  • backed up on my harddrive and a usb key
  • I listen to them with Spotify on my computer and on my phone
  • I manage them in the cloud in https://www.notion.so/ and its desktop application

Now, itā€™s a little off topic, but I canā€™t resist because Iā€™m in love with Notion : it works really well to manipulate hundreds of fields and stacks, so hereā€™s a little hint of what you can do with it.

Indeed, Notion is not just a storage service, itā€™s actually a note application on steroids ā€¦ with databases. But no, it is not overly complicated, more like a spreadsheet with hidden powers.

My setup :

  • I have one database to organize all Sapienā€™s fields (audios, videos, mandalas, tags, ā€¦). Each field has a complete fact sheet (audio file, embebded Youtube video, description, picture, publication date, length, link to the forum thread, interesting reviews, personal notes, wether I bought it or not, what older fields it replaces ā€¦). I can categorize, filter, order, add any info I see fit. This gives me a comprehensive Sapien encyclopedia that is very easy and nice to browse whenever Iā€™m looking for something.

  • I have another database where I track all my stacks, how they evolve overtime and the start/end date of use of each one, as well as any other helpful infos.

  • Both databases are linked, which allows me, for example, to automatically know how long Iā€™ve used each field, by only entering the start/end dates of each stack.

If anyone is interested, I can make this a topic to talk about it without completely derailing the current thread

I wouldnā€™t rely much on commercial cloud options when you can have your own personal cloud using NAS.

Just to mention few.

Just sign up on icedrive.com, itā€™s free and you get 10 GB storage free. Make 2 emails and youā€™re good to go.
Apart from that, sign up on different email sites and mail those files to yourself.

Pcloud, Google cloud, drop box, hard drive on PC, phone storage. The cloud files are all uploaded at the same time so thatā€™s nice. I tend to update my PC files once in a while since that takes a longer time.

Iā€™m in love with your setup already.

The data of my S.M audio fields and other creators are stored on my phone, laptop, 2.5 inch hard drive, ssd, usb keys and microsd .

I am using software for data synchronization from one medium to another.

I am not too confident that I will store my data on Google Drive :eyes:.

oopsā€¦never thought of thisā€¦just have it on my systemā€¦but its really a safe bet to keep them on google driveā€¦ alongwith the system.

whenever using online storage use OTP or 2nd step verificationā€¦
