Autobiographical Memory

I have a friend whom we’ve known each other since grade 1. When we meet up, he brings up stories of our days as kids and he can recall these events with huge amount of detail including the specific date and time. I remember those stories, but vaguely and definitely not the date and time, so I cannot determine the accuracy, or if he’s just making it up. The other guys in our group make fun of him for this, but I’m fascinated by this, especially since having aphantasia, I can’t remember things I saw an hour ago.

I wonder though how accurate people’s recollections are if the theory that we are constantly shifting between dimensions based on our thoughts is true.

Anyways what do you all think of autobiographical memory? Would this be a field that we could add to Dream’s request list? I’ve read stories of people who’ve had AM for almost their whole life and while it has many benefits, they say it makes them severely depressed because they often think about the hard times in their lives with immense details, over and over. But I think many of us would benefit a lot, especially since we’ve worked so hard on taming our egos and eliminating the constant negative mind chatter, we could easily control our thoughts so that we don’t make ourselves insane.

If you want to read into this more, here is a really good journal article…

I’ve touched on this for Sapien Medciine’s Superhuman Genius v2.0

It appears people who have such vivid memories have very large amygdalas with superior connections to their hippocampus. Episodic memory is the name of the game, although having there are those like kim peek who have both sides of the coin with declarative (facts/semantics) and episodic (emotional/events), but Kim would have lack a corpus callosum and fault temporal lobe so is a hobbledehoy in any other playing field of cognitive function

Both brain areas appear to be superior vs the average person. eximiously the hippocampus -

And the things is a fallacy/loblogic ipsedixitist dogmatic doctrinarian anoia/idiocy. EVERYONE has a photographic/eidetic memory, but imperfect recall.

There is a new study on DAMB receptors where they studied flies that have these receptors and how the receptors played a role in forgetting/lethean. They could remember everything because they could not forget!
So i would approach this with the inverse thinking mental model of reverse engineering what makes such abilities possible.

Control what you forget, and you never haver to worry about what to remember.

Damn… this is totally me. I didnt know it was a ‘condition’ lol

As imagined ive always thought its a bitter sweet thing to have because when the memories are good then i can enjoy them all over again just by bringing them to light, but when they arent, its a tough ride you didnt ask for lol

I can have absolutely vivid moments when i start thinking or talking about certain day or time, bring back the smells, tastes, what music was being played, who was around wearing what, what i felt, what others felt (im a big empath so apparently what i felt others were feeling at the time stays in my memory too and i feel it all over again)

And i think thats why every time i take any psychedelic in a ritual etc the memories are super rough or painful even from past lives i guess because those were so tough i managed to bury them in the deepest part of my Subconscious knowing i could bring them up exactly as they happened. Lol always an adventure. Hardest part is bringing back the feelings of the ones i love that i absorved and felt as my own that need healing  like is not just my stuff but all both sides of my lineage.

Id be more interesting in a tag blocking this ability or condition lol
Because even with the good memories i can get caught up in day dreaming land not letting go

i’m not a scientist, but i feel like your friend is very present in the moment to be able to remember those details.

i am beginning to have similar experiences. i am usually asked by my coworkers regarding what date such and such happened, and i am able to tell them the day based on bringing back ‘how i felt’ or the emotions i linked with the scenarios they ask about.

from bringing back the emotions, i am able to ‘look around’ and see in that memory to give them more details of where someone was sitting and what they were saying. i still have trouble with what people are wearing, but that’s mostly because i focus more on behaviours than fashion.
