âPeople canât do something themselves, they wanna tell you you canât do itâ
âYou got a dream? You gotta protect itâ
Couldnât tell you how many times Iâve watched this movies in the last 20 years.
Before
After
My favorite scene of the movie is not on YouTube though, the final gunfight scene is as short as it is lethal and bloody.
There is no rapid camera changes, bullet shot for nothing. Wide angle, kung fu, ak-47, piles of dead bodies. You blink too long, you missed something.
The training lasted so long in contrast, it gives a great emotional pay off.
Every character had a compelling reason to fight, even the least likeable antagonist had some nobility. Big moral dilemma. They are all heroes and pions at the same time.
Like the Shawshank scene about time and pressure, consistency is a great theme
Nic Pizzolattoâs episode âForm and Voidâ from True Detective S1 portrays an abstonishing complementary relationship between spirituality and materialism.
Ah nice one!
That falling leaves scene

"Why the big secret? People are smart. They can handle it.
âA person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it. Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what youâll know tomorrow.â
