Agree about the valuable information within the threads on this forum!
I’ll repost a few relevant thoughts of mine from a PM to mods here, for everyone in the community to consider and discuss and add your thoughts.
Regarding previous discussions:
I’ve often thought that it’s a shame to lose posts containing wisdom or constructive discussions when a topic is deleted, if the discussion can be continued constructively. Some discussions can be of value to all of us, and future readers or lurkers, so perhaps splitting posts from a topic might be a solution if everyone isn’t being uncivil.
Without knowing much about what’s happened or how the later discussion had gone, if I might make a general suggestion to hopefully improve such discussions in future, perhaps if a member is uncomfortable with their topic becoming derailed (or if something has gone off topic and it’s become an issue), constructive but off-topic posts can be split into a separate topic?
This seemed to work rather well when the forum was in its early days, and a discussion split from the ‘Topic about Animals’ thread was actually how the ‘Psychic Development’ thread began!
That might be an option which allows members to continue reading and discussing the off-topic posts on a separate thread, and hopefully continue discussing both topics constructively, rather than both discussions becoming no longer accessible.
If the off-topic posts are civil and only an issue due to being off-topic, they can often be of value by themselves.
Perhaps other solutions can be found which aren’t uncomfortable for a user wishing to delete their own posts, yet retain all of the other valuable posts and content in threads.
Regarding topics such as Amygdala healing (+ fear release): New release (discussed in this thread) which contain many insightful posts and answers about the field: it seems all topics started by a user are automatically deleted when their account is deleted.
Perhaps if @anon6431808, @gpo, @SammyG or Dream still have access to the deleted thread, the thread could be revived with moderation changes to set a moderator as the poster of the first post, similar to what was done with the Discussion about Love and Natural Male Enhancement threads?
That could potentially be done for topics started by a user if they wish to leave and delete their account.
